Sitting on the west of the Great Otway National Park lies Johanna Beach with one of the best campsites in Victoria sitting right behind it.
Johanna Beach is about a three hour drive from Melbourne when heading there direct, although if you follow the Great Ocean Road from Torquay and stop a few times along the way, expect to arrive there in the middle of the afternoon.
The campground is huge and each site is thick, bright green grass, hidden behind shrubs that provide some protection from the winds that can be pretty damn strong along this coastline.
Dogs are allowed and Johanna Beach is great for surfing – what more could you want!
Other than the amazing campsite and world-class beach, there are a huge amount of places to see in the area. Only 45 minutes from the world famous 12 Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge or 10 minutes the other direction to an ancient cool climate rain forest.
If you’d rather be further in the forest and surrounded by giant Eucalyptus trees and soft tree ferns by a small river, then take a look at Aire Crossing Campsite!
